Step aboard the time machine and travel back over 100 years to the bustling port of Gothenburg, Sweden. Here, sailors from all corners of the world would dock their ships, bringing with them exotic spices and herbs from far-off lands. It was during this time that Snus, a popular tobacco product, became a staple among seafarers. Legend has it that a seaman's mood was only as good as his Snus, and with long voyages ahead, they had to get creative with their blends.
Enter Göteborgs Rapé, a smooth and flowery Snus with hints of fresh herbs and juniper berry. This unique blend was born from the creative tinkering of sailors who wanted to add a touch of the exotic to their tobacco. The blend soon became a hit among mainland Swedes, who were transported to the high seas with every puff.
In 1915, the Swedish government took control of all Snus production to fund the country's defence and pension reform. Only the most popular blends were produced, and among them was Göteborgs Rapé. After the war, the brand became a registered trademark, and the rest is history.
The name Göteborgs Rapé pays homage to the coastal city of Gothenburg and the heritage of the sailors who first created the blend. The blue and gold can has become a symbol of quality, with mainland Swedes recognizing it as a sign of freshness and exoticism.
Fast forward to the present day, and Göteborgs Rapé is still going strong. In fact, it was the first White Portion Snus in the history of Snus, and its flowery, smooth taste with notes of lavender and juniper berry is still a favorite among Swedes. Recently, a new creation of Göteborgs Rapé has been launched in collaboration with Swedish Match and Alexander Gustafsson, a professional mixed martial artist and passionate Snus user. Göteborgs Rapé One White uses the latest manufacturing techniques to create a softer, stronger, and fuller pouch that will carry you away with every use.
